The Schuylkill Acts and Impacts is an 8-day service learning program for high school students. The expedition journeys by boat and van down the Schuylkill River, starting at the headwaters in Schuylkill County, and ending in South Philadelphia where the Schuylkill meets the Delaware River. Issues like the impact of coal mining on the river’s health, agricultural impacts on the river and storm water management are covered in depth over the week. Amy Goldfischer, a participant in the pilot program, will talk about some of the key topics and reflect on the different perspectives that she heard along the journey.
