Gladwyne Jewish Memorial Cemetery

“Har Hazeitim” was abandoned many years ago by a Jewish burial society and recently rediscovered in its thickly wooded area off of Conshohocken State Road. Landlocked by private properties, Har Hazetim’s restoration has become a major undertaking by a local friends group. Broken headstones, overgrown weeds, hard-to-read markers, and intriguing history await anyone who might stumble upon Lower Merion’s abandoned cemetery. Many of the people interred here emigrated to America before or during the first Russian pogrom in 1881, and most of estimated 2,500 people buried here were children.
